Uncle Pete

Since moving back to the area we had the privilege of going to visit Uncle Pete often in his last days of living here on earth.  In fact, he requested a party full of cupcakes, balloons, streamers and pictures the day before he died, so we all went and celebrated with him.  I was amazed by Pete's peace and comfort in the Lord since his brain tumor diagnosis.  Pete was a testament of God's faithfulness through the good and bad times.  Pete taught me what it looks like to have the joy of the Lord as your strength.

Peter A. Schroeder, 60, Oshkosh, WI, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. He endured a valiant fight through the ravages of cancer and won that battle when he was born into eternity. God was faithful to him in his trials. 

Pete was born on February 28, 1952, in Ripon, WI, the son of Ralph and Joanne Schroeder. He graduated from Omro High School in 1970 and went on to serve for the Air Force in Athens, Greece during the Vietnam War. He was an avid photographer who loved to use his leisure time to capture people and objects in their natural environment. He also used this skill in carrying out his job through the years.

Pete will be greatly missed by his daughter, Dana; mother, Joanne Schroeder; sisters, Barb (Bruce) Bohn, and Jean (Larry) Davis; nieces, Cori (Adam) Patrick, Mikaela (Luke) Hatfield and nephew, Jay Davis. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Schroeder. 

Many friends and acquaintances were encouraging to Pete during his last days, for which we are grateful--specifically, Kathy Straveler and his roommate at Vallhaven, Darrell, who watched over him like guardian angels. To Pete's many friends in Tennessee and across the country- we appreciate the support you gave during his life. Pete loved the people in the photography group he attended; they too were instrumental in his life. We are grateful to all of Pete's caregivers and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs for their support.
